How-to

Add a live view-count badge to your GitHub README

You've seen shields.io badges for build status and stars. Pulse gives you the same flat SVG badge for a live view (or like, or comment) count on any public post — a YouTube video, a Hacker News thread, a Stack Overflow question — as a single image URL that updates itself. No badge-hosting service, no token, no refresh job.

One line of Markdown

![views](https://pulse.walls.sh/badge?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DdQw4w9WgXcQ)

Renders, live: views badge

Give /badge any post URL and it shows the most meaningful number that platform exposes — views where available, else likes, else comments.

Pick the metric

Add ?metric= (views, likes, or comments):

![likes](https://pulse.walls.sh/badge?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DdQw4w9WgXcQ&metric=likes)

likes badge

Works across platforms

A Hacker News thread (points), a Stack Overflow question (views):

HN badge   SO badge

Pass a profile URL instead and you get a follower badge — see the follower-count badge guide.

Customize the label and color

![plays](https://pulse.walls.sh/badge?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DdQw4w9WgXcQ&label=plays&color=green)

custom badgecolor takes blue, green, gray, red, purple, or a hex value.

It's cached, so it's gentle

Badges send a 1-hour Cache-Control, so GitHub's image CDN refreshes them without hammering the API — the number stays current within the hour, which is plenty for a README.
